I’ve never had the opportunity to play a vintage Elk Super Fuzz Sustainar… but having now had a run with the @roshi_pedals ELF and @earthquakerdev Hizumitas, I’m not sure I need to. All the aggression of a MKI, but never needs to catch its breath. Low mid and straight mid focus, much longer sustain than you would expect, and just gets angrier as it’s pushed. This one took a while to click for me and find its place. Raw, untamed, noisy artifacts and a little unpredictable. Then I paired it with something a bit off center, and it became immediately musical to my ears. Surprising textures, harmonic content, a great swell and bloom inside the sweep of the flanger. Another pairing of brilliant builds, and very different takes. PigDog with a characteristic high mid growl and immediacy in the attack… sustain balanced with aggression, top end sizzle and artifacts in the decay. DAM has an unbelievable low end and low mid push… drop a step and open chords make you straighten your back at attention, clarity and roundness to the single notes and a subtle bloom as things speed up. Both share incredible note separation… high strings coming through with everything ringing. Best of the best.
